NFL Exec Predicts $112 Million Steelers QB Target May Call It a Career

 



The Pittsburgh Steelers have a crucial offseason ahead. After losing four straight to finish the 2024 regular season and suffering a humiliating wild card defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, it’s clear that changes are needed. Falling apart late in the season has become a bad habit for Mike Tomlin’s squad over the last five years, and the team needs to make some big moves in the coming months.

One position that might see a complete overhaul is quarterback. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will both be unrestricted free agents this offseason, and there’s a lot of uncertainty about their futures.

The Steelers could be looking for a new quarterback, but according to NFL execs, Aaron Rodgers, who’s been a popular target for teams this offseason, won’t be available.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke with a few league figures, and they expect Rodgers to retire instead of joining another team. One AFC executive said, “I’m guessing he doesn’t want to go to a rebuild. And if you're a contender, I’m not sure they want to take on Aaron Rodgers and all that comes with that. So, he might just come to the conclusion that he’s done.”

Rodgers is one of the all-time greats and will eventually make it into the Hall of Fame. He’s been a “longshot” to return to the Jets for months, and he even hinted at retirement before the team’s season finale against the Miami Dolphins.

If Rodgers does decide to play another year, he could be an interesting fit in Pittsburgh. He’d likely be an upgrade over Wilson and still has some left in the tank. But, at 41 years old, Rodgers wouldn’t be a long-term fix at quarterback for the Steelers.
