Ben Roethlisberger Still Dunking on the Browns After Retirement



Even in retirement, Ben Roethlisberger can’t help but throw shade at the Cleveland Browns. On his Footbahlin podcast with former Steelers teammate Ramon Foster, Roethlisberger was asked about the NFL’s top rivalries. He didn’t hesitate to leave the Steelers-Browns matchup off the list, calling it more of a one-sided domination than a true rivalry.

"I didn't put Steelers-Browns on here because it's not really a rivalry," Roethlisberger said. "That's a domination."

Roethlisberger has never hidden his disdain for the Browns. Growing up just a few hours from Cleveland, Roethlisberger was a college star at Miami (OH) and was on track to be one of the top picks in the 2004 NFL Draft. At No. 6 overall, the Browns were in need of a quarterback—and everyone thought Roethlisberger was the obvious choice.

But instead of taking him, Cleveland picked tight end Kellen Winslow II. Roethlisberger slipped to No. 11, where the Steelers happily snatched him up. The rest, as they say, is history.

During his 18-year career, Roethlisberger became a two-time Super Bowl champion, six-time Pro Bowler, and threw for 64,088 yards and 418 touchdowns, ranking him No. 5 and No. 8 all-time, respectively.

Against the Browns, Roethlisberger was a total boss, finishing with a 26-2-1 record in the regular season, racking up 6,896 yards and 43 touchdowns. While the Browns have managed to go 3-3 against the Steelers since Roethlisberger retired, he’s still not ready to admit it’s anything close to a rivalry.

"I don't see it as a rivalry," Roethlisberger said. "That's a win every year. That's two wins a year."
